変換コネクタと延長コードで音が変わる

ER-4Pの話を書きましたが、コイツは微妙な音の違いを感じることができるので、ケーブルを変えたり、ジャックを変えたり、繋ぐとこを変えたりすると、良くなったり悪くなったりする。

オーディオマニアじゃないので、あんまり気にしてなかったのですが、4Pを4Sにする変換コネクタというか延長コードみたいなものが存在するらしい。見た目はなんでもない短いコードなのですが、どーもジャックに仕掛けがあるらしい。6000円くらいする。買ってみるのもおもしろいけど、うちにもそんなのたくさんあるじゃないか。と思って、ケーブルボックスの中からミニジャックをヘッドホンジャックに変換するコネクタとイヤホンの延長ケーブルを引っ張りだしてきて、音に違いが出るか試してみた。

結果は、最初に書いたように、かなりの違いを感じることができたのですが、ビックリするくらい音が良くなったケーブルとコネクタの組み合わせを見つけることができて、素晴らしさを感じてるとこです。

音が良くなるというのは、曖昧な感覚的なものなので、人によって違うのはあたりまえ。そこで、音がいいという自分の定義をはっきりさせておくと、

音の分離が良くて、音の粒がハッキリしていて明瞭度が高い。
どの音も埋もれること無く聴き取れる。
全体のバランスがフラットでありながらも、低域がペラペラにならず、パワーがある。かといってブーミーではない。
音場が広く感じ、音の定位がわかりやすい。
爆音で聴いても耳が痛くない。
音楽制作に使える。
聴いてて気持ちいい。

こんな感じです。これらをクリアする組み合わせが家に落ちてるパーツで実現するとは思わなかった。延長ケーブルもヘッドホンジャックも単なる付属品という認識ではもったいないと思った。まさか付属品の組み合わせでこんなに変わるとは思わなかったので、かなり驚いてます。

ケーブルで音が変わるというのは、当たり前の話かもしれませんが、高いケーブルがいいってわけではなくて、ヘッドホンの特性との相性だったりするんだと思う。

ヘッドホンジャックが10個、延長ケーブルが4本。ケーブルだけでも変わるし、ジャックと組み合わせるとまた変わる。この繰り返しを散々やったあげく、お気に入りのER-4Pがさらに非常に気持ちよくチューンされた。

まぁ、様々なヘッドホンを買いまくった証拠ですが、今となっては、コネクタとケーブルがどのヘッドホンのものだったのかわかならないw

でも、これだけ良くなってくれるのであれば、試してみる価値はあると思います。家にケーブルたくさんある人は差し替えてみて自分好みの音を見つけてみてはどうでしょう。お気に入りのヘッドホンがもっと良くなるかもしれませんよ。
